I have an odd one for you....
Last night I went to a friends house to help him reformat his Dell XPS 600 system. He said he had some sort of virus and wanted to start from scratch. We found his Dell CD with Xp Media Center on it and I began the operation.
Keep in mind that I have never really had experience installing XP Media Center. I went through the usual steps and came to the screen where I selected what partition I wanted to delete, created a new partition and let it do a regular reformat, not quick.
I also noticed a FAT32 partition about 32MB in size on the same HDD which I was installing XP Media Center. It contained no drive letter. It seems this small partition is normal for Dells from what I can remember.
Anyway, after XP installed we rebooted for the first time. Suddenly this DOS CMD window pops up and starts running from C:Windows\System32\cscript.exe. Then a window pops up and tells us it's installing applications, please wait.....while it's flashing from red to orange. We let it finish and everything seems fine. But I have never seen this script run after an install.
Is this normal for Dell systems with XP Media Center? This just sounds really odd since I have never seen this before and I have plenty of experience with reformatting systems....even Dells. I immediately thought the virus was still there somehow even after we reformatted.
I would appreciate your help on this....really!
