reformatting problems

i bought windows 7 home premium because i'd planned on reformatting my computer. i currently have vista home premium installed and its a real bitch to get rid of.

1st i simply tried inserting the windows 7 disc, but it tells me i need to restart and choose the custom option on boot. tried that, nothing happened, won't even boot, doesn't even give me another operating systems to boot.

2nd i tried reformatting. for some reason i can't delete the partition. so i googled what to do and it says i need a recovery disc. well i don't have that. i have nothing but the desire to get rid of this operating system.

all i want to do is install this new operating system. preferably i would like to reformat my computer first but if i can't so be it. i would like to know my options with these tools at my disposal: mouse + keyboard and windows 7 disc.

You have to boot to the install cd to install 7 and totally get rid of vista. To do that, go into the bios and make sure the first boot device is the cdrom drive. Save changes and then reboot with install cd in the drive. When you see a message that says press any kep to boot to cd/dvd press any key, then press the enter button and setup will begin.
