I want to reformat my dell inspiron laptop with a clean install (vista yuck). However, I can not change my boot setting because the bios is locked. Anyone know of a default password to unlock the bios?

There should be a key that you tap when booting the pc to enter the quick boot menu, like Esc

In Dells I believe the BIOS key is F2 (at least that's what it was on my old Dell machine). You may need to reset the bios if it somehow got passworded and you can't access it. You can do this by uplugging the machine and removing the button cell on the motherboard, waiting a minute, and putting it back in. This should work but be advised, you will have to change all the BIOS settings back to how they were (of course, without the password). Hope that helps.

F12 should get the boot order to appear so he can temporarily select the CD/DVD-ROM
