this is quite annoying, when my pc is on standby and my refriderator kicks on it turns my pc on too. what causes this and is there a remedy besides moving my computer desk.
and dont say unplug the fridge..lol

Well, might be a power surge if they're on the same circuit.

Please tell me your PC isn't plugged directly to the wall.

no i have a surge protector..$10,000 gurantee on it so it should be a good one. i'd say they are on the same circuit but not seeing how the fridge taking up more juice makes it come on, runs fine with everything on that circuit running.

would it be safer to shut it off..i really like standbye mode

Its like a surge protector, but its a box with a bunch of plugs that has a battery inside of it for when the power goes out. I have one, its supposed to guarantee something like 10 minutes of power until it runs out. It may help, but personally, I've never had a fridge on the same outlet as mine :)

UPS = Un-interruptible Power Supply

You can get a UPS/Surge Protector combo, i think that's what mine is. Will run monitor, PC, speakers, and 2 lamps when the powrer goes out. Only tested it for about 3 mins though lol...then i plugged it back in.

ehh, its a long shot but if the fridge is in your room, the motor could be shaking it on...? mabey cause a key to activate?

LOL If only you could see how dangerous the way everthing is plugged in for im computer its an acciddent waiting to happen. But saying that even if there was a surge and my computer got fried I wont really care its a dell :eek: but now i think about there is alot of things plugged in and used all at once! I swear some day I will buy a surge protector.

my whole place is like on 2 ciruits i think, if i moved it to the other one then i'd pop the breaker when i run the deep fryer lol
but seems to me if its the decrease in juice then my pc should shut off not turn on, hoped maybe a power setting in bios might fix it, i'll experiment sometime
