Registry Cleaner Software

Can someone reccomend a good one. Do these really work and do they speed up the computer? Side note, i feel like im posting too many threads, is there a way to search for questions in the forum so i dont have to browse and see if something is already discussed. Thanks

The two used here one for seeing specific values and even drivers removed would be the RegSeeker for that and RegCleaner for the automatic registry cleanup tool that offers. Using a cleaner and seeing any improvement depends on how many "now orphan" values have been left in there usually by uninstallers.

Over a period of time after numerous program changes the registry starts seeing a good lump of garbage lingering with registry values pointing at things no longer installed. That included drivers already removed but still trying to be loaded for various things.

For finding a specific item simply bring down the "search" option on the CF menu bar and enter a specific word or phrase to find any threads were that was mentioned. You won't necessary find that as a topic at times however.

For RegCleaner follow the instructions for use at the home page seen at http://www.dewassoc.com/support/useful/regcleaner.htm When first going to use this one a main window appears displaying all non MS programs, games, etc. with the main registry keys for each seen there. The tools>registry cleanup option brings out a side menu with the options there including the "do them all" choice.

RegSeeker is also a freeware found at http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm

Hi kitty,
I use Ccleaner for my registry cleaning purposes. It seems to keep my system speedy. Yes, you can search the forums via the "Search" button above. Good luck!

The registry cleaner seen in CCleaner won't come close to the others mentioned here. That's mainly for cleaning up all now useless temp folders and cleaning out the offline content for IExcplorer. The tool there is more or less an uninstaller not a full cleaner seen there.

The automatic cleaner in RegCleaner goes through the entire registry scanning for invalid and now useless entries found there. The main window allows for manual removal of any main registry for any program listed. You can even remove some adwares if you see any new unidenitfied ones.

Plus the tools menu sees the regedit option for opening up the main registry itself. Experiences users advised for that however.

ccleaner is a weak registry cleaner. but it is 100% safe.
i use yamicsoft's registry cleaner. safe and identifies more than the others.... and i've tried out a lot. only problem is that it requires net framework 2.0 to work.

The RegSeeker freeware also sees a good auto cleaner with options you can check off as well as being able to see specific values in the registry removed without using regedit. If you have a leftover driver from some program still loading after that was removed from the system you can remove the driver in the system32 following the reg key.

I prefer cCleaner. It is free and very effective.
Download from here:
http://www.ccleaner.com/download

In paid catogory, I prefer TuneUp

CCleaner or nicknamed the "crap cleaner" is good for what it is intended for. But it does lack in the registry cleaning arena seeing an uninstaller only there. For sweeping up the crap still lingering in the reg you need something that will perform a total scan not just remove a specific program to locate and remove all sorts of invalid entries and other "orphans" and errors seen there.

Ccleaner, Eusing and Regcleaner are all good. Regcleaner doesn't seem to like to run on some XP systems though.

Ccleaner's downfall is that it breaks the autoplay feature in XP. Not a big problem, as long as you run the fix tool after you run Ccleaner.

I'd rather use a regcleaner that doesn't break anything, I'd never recommend using Ccleaner in the registry..

That's why one reason I only adivise RegSeeker for the advanced user there. If you enter the wrong items and have the program remove any wrong entrie... oops! you made a goober!

RegCleaner on the other hand has it's own non agressive cleaner. I've run on everything from 95 up without problems. The main window however is for the advanced user there again. CCleaner is designed as a drive cleanup tool not a fix for the registry.

CCleaner does have a registry cleaner:

And as you can see, it's more than temp and browser cleanup. It's a competent, if free, registry cleaner. I personally like Eusing better, as it seems to catch a bit more.

I've run RegCleaner following up after CCleaner's tool seen there to find plenty of things that one misses. RegSeeker also has it's own automatic cleanup tool. But for comparing tools between RegCleaner and CCleaner first a look at CCleaner's cleanup of the registry.

Now look at what RegCleaner then only begins to find afterwards when starting the registry cleanup tool there.

For a bonus we now look at a much newer freeware to also see why you readily prefer Eusing over CCleaner since Eusing is just that like RegCleaner meant for the registry.

The "crap cleaner" as it is called lost! The other tools seem to keep winning since the captures here were made in consecutive order as the programs were run for the comparison to be made.

...if quality of a registry cleaner is based on number of entries it gets rid of, would any of you give a five star rating for a program that wipes out your entire registry? :P

i went with reg sweeper reccomeded by pc eye. i really only wanted to use it once because i was installing and uninstalling a bunch of software and windows updates were getting cut off due to slow computer. Thanks for the input

When a program is seeing a good number of now invalid items removed it shows that it is usually working far better then some other programs since it is a more effective tool. When it comes to something like the registry you have to be particular on what is used or... oops!

I thought I'd try RegCleaner and downloaded it but as I've since found out by googling, it doesn't like some dual core processors.
It downloaded, it installed OK, it put a shortcut OK and when started, nothing it was invisible but task manager said it was running. Perhaps v4 is a little bit old ? In fact XP support is not mentioned.

regseeker which ive used for quite a while and cclean which i learned about here. both have always been safe. Ive tried others that are
a bit agressive and could shut ya down. i think for the most part and general use
these two have always worked well.

I first ran RegCleaner since an old SP/98 machine while also having tried it when tinkering with XP on the primary HD and seeing MSDos 6.22/3.1/95 and 98 at different times and even Fedora Core 4 on a second drive.

No matter what build or version of Windows after 3.1 it was always visible with a main window for advanced users seen first. You may have something minimizing it to the Start taskbar without knowing it.

CCleaner is safe to use but not anything like having a good cleaner for the registry. The registry cleaner in that is more or less a joke! Regseeker does have a better cleaner to start with plus the option to selective see specific registry values and even drivers removed by name. Again that part is for the more advanced user there since any mods are at your own risk!
