Registry problem while installing programs

I posted this in the Operating System Forum as I thought that would be the correct forum and was told by (PC eye) to ask for Buzz, ceewi1, or SFR to look at my HJT & MalWare Logs.

Here is a copy of my original post:
___________________________________________________________
I'm having issues while installing software. My OS is Windows XP SP2.

This has happened many times over the last few months and now I've found this site and hope someone can help, so here is the issue.

Today I was updating BitDefender Anit Virus to version 2009 and all was fine until near the end of the install I received this error:

"Could not write value BDWizReg to Key \Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.
Verify that you have access to that key or contact
your support personnel."

Now this has been happening every time I try to Install, upgrade or repair almost any program and it is always the same key :
"\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run." Does anyone have any idea what might be the problem.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

My second post:

Well my OS is XP and as I stated the problem happens even with new software and it is always with the same key. I tried to install a fax program it failed, I tried to install Service pack 3 for windows xp and it faild.... same key.

??? I just don't know, I'm thinking corupt registry or maybe remains of virus or malware but no hits on that.

?Is there a place I might post a HighjackThis Log?

_____________________________________________________________

Now, today after I ran Malwarebytes & fixed the one issue shown on the log (attached below) I tried to update bitdefender AV again and same problem. This problem stops Bitdefender from loading and I have no protection.

Sooo, here is the logs that Mep916 asked me to post:

registry problem

its sound like you have big mess with your registry.
you need a registry cleaner that clean and fix your registry.
i always use the Ms-errors tools, it's not for free and i think that is the reason why i don't need to run any other software on my pc.
it always update and doing great job.
you can try those free tools on the net but you will always need to run few tools everytime.
try the Ms-errors

There are remnants of an infection present.

Please download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to C:\SDFix

You may wish to print out these instructions or copy them to a notepad document since you will be unable to access the Internet while in Safe Mode to read from this site.

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode (tap F8 just before Windows starts to load and select Safe Mode from the list).
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

Also, try the steps under "I do not use an anti-spyware program" at http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...88256b4b005eb010?OpenDocument&src=bar_sch_nam.

Please post the requested logs and tell me whether the error still occurs

New HJT log w/SDFix log

Here are my new logs. I have reinstalled bit defender v .2009 and it wrote to the registry ok. I looked with regedit and all entries in "C>>>microsoft/windows/current version/run" are now showing.
Take a look and let me know. Thanks.

sc delete "Microsoft Internet Service"

Please reboot your PC and create a new HijackThis log. Before copying and pasting this log into a reply post, please disable Word Wrap (Format -> Untick Word Wrap), as it makes it difficult to read.

Great, your logfile now appears to be clean.

Below I have included some ideas on how to prevent future infections.

Please consider using these ideas to help secure your computer. While there is no way to guarantee safety when you use a computer, these steps will make it much less likely that you will need to endure another infection. While we really like to help people, we would rather help you protect yourself so that you won't need that help in the future.

Please navigate to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and download all the Critical Updates for Windows. These will patch many of the security holes through which attackers can gain access to your computer.

Please either enable Automatic Updates under Start -> Control Panel -> Automatic Updates or get into the habit of checking Windows Update regularly. They usually have security updates every month. You can set Windows to notify you of Updates so that you can choose, but only do this if you believe you are able to understand which ones are needed. This is a crucial security measure.

As a minimum, you need at least an antivirus, firewall and some type of anti-spyware program.

I notice you are running Spybot, which is good. You might want to consider installing and running some of the following programs; they are either free or have free versions of commercial programs:

SpywareBlaster
A tutorial on using SpywareBlaster to prevent malware from ever installing on your computer may be found here.

SpywareGuard
A tutorial on using SpywareGuard for real-time protection against spyware and hijackers may be found here.

If you use Internet Explorer, it is a good idea to use IE-Spyad which provides protections against malicious websites.

Please keep these programs up-to-date and run them whenever you suspect a problem to prevent malware problems. A number of programs have resident protection and it is a good idea to run the resident protection of one of each type of program to maintain protection. However, it is important to run only one resident program of each type since they can conflict and become less effective. That means only one antivirus, firewall and scanning anti-spyware program at a time. Passive protectors, like SpywareBlaster and IE-Spyad can be run with any of them.

Note that there are a lot of rogue programs out there that want to scare you into giving them your money and some malware actually claims to be security programs. If you get a popup for a security program that you did not install yourself, do NOT click on it and ask for help immediately. It is very important to run an antivirus and firewall, but you can't always rely on reviews and ads for information. Ask in a security forum that you trust if you are not sure. If you are unsure are looking for anti-spyware programs, you can find out if it is a rogue here:

Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is a very good alternative. In addition to being generally more secure than Internet Explorer, it has a very good built-in popup blocker and add-ons, like NoScripts, can make it even more secure. Opera is another good option.
If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from here
Opera is available here: http://www.opera.com/download/

Hopefully these steps will help to keep you error free. If you run into more difficulty, we will certainly do what we can to help. :)

Thanks for the help
