RegistrycleanerXP Double-you tee eff?!?!

Newb to the forum here. I have a problem with a freshly wiped and reinstalled Win 2k system.
I just set up a new hard drive in my computer, and loaded Windows 2000 along with all of the drivers I need. The very first thing I did once I got the internet up and running was download Firefox. Naturally, IE fudged it up. While installing the setup files for Firefox I got an error about a file being corrupt and it wouldn't finish the installation.

Now I get these random Popups telling me my registry is damaged and corrupt and I need to go to RegistrycleanerXP.com and download their crap which will get rid of it. Which I know is a load of BS. I also get a similar message telling me that my computer is vulnerable to attacks and malware and all that, and says I need to go to adjustHere.com.

Anyway, I downloaded and ran full tests with AVG Antivirus 7.5, AVG Antispyware 7.5, AVG rootkit, Spyhunter3, and SuperantiSpyware, and none of them have found the source of these popups. Also tried the 2 online scanners listed in the sticky here and neither of them would work.
Googling found me an article about disabling the Microsoft messenger which delivers these messages. I tried to run the "services msc" command like it said, and got a bunch of nothing. Id rather not have to wipe this thing... again, and re-install everything... again, but its looking like I'll have to.

Has anyone else here had this and knows how to fix it? Please help if you know anything! This is really pissing me off.

you shouldn't believe any program that says you need to clean you registry. try installing spybot-search and destroy or ad-aware to scan for malwares and spywares

These do sound like Messenger Service popups.

Please download and run Shoot The Messenger. If the program indicates that the "Messenger Service is currently running", click on Disable Messenger. Tell me if this was the case and if it has fixed your problem.

Please also post a HijackThis log so that we can see if there's any malware on the system:

Please download the HijackThis installer from http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/threat_analytics/HJTInstall.exe.

Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

When the Notepad window opens choose Edit -> Select All to select the entire log, and copy and paste the log into a reply post.
Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Well the Popups have gone dormant since I ran Spyware Terminator yesterday. I Dont know if that made a difference, all it found was a few random cookies and a registry entry for the Spyhunter program that I tried and got rid of. I did download Shoot the Messenger, so hopefully that bullshiz is gone for good.

Thanks for the help!
