Reinstall XP with UK CD and French key?

Hi.

My girlfriend wants me to sort out her laptop and reinstall Windows XP. She has a French laptop with a (French obviously) XP Media Centre key. Will I run into any problems reinstalling Windows XP (just the normal home version with SP3) with my UK CD?

It all depends on the license and install cd you have. Is a retail install cd or upgrade, or oem?

The CD came with a laptop computer, so I am guessing that it is OEM. However, I used it to reinstall Windows on a different laptop than what it came with (using the key that was on the bottom of the laptop it was being reinstalled on) with no issues.

I was just wondering if the key on the bottom of my girlfriends laptop will only work with a) a french language copy of XP, and b) a Media Centre edition of XP.

You'll unlikely have any language issues with the Keys, different editions, ie Home, Pro & MCE, is a totally different story.

If the edition / installation match then by all means try it!
