Reinstallation Problem

I recently got a virus and need to reinstall windows. When I try to reinstall, the computer does not recognize that I have a hard disk. I try to download the SATA drivers but none of them fit on a floppy disk so I do not know what else to do so that windows will install for me.
 
i dont think you can install and os on a drive with SATA, i can be proved wrong,

have you got an ide hardrive and does the setup detect that.
 
You can install the OS on a SATA drive. Like Trizoy said you can get the drivers off of the motherboard CD.
 
I would use the floppy or CD, but I misplaced them awhile ago. I also tried going to the Soltek website, but it is down for some reason. I just dont know where else I could get them and have them fit on a floppy.
 
what is the model of the motherboard you have? Thats the first thing we need to know. then we can search for the correct driver.
 
Your board has 2 different controllers for the Sata ports. depending on which ones are plugged in here are the appropriate drivers for them. And since solteks website is not working for me i had to go another route. Maybe they are no longer in business. I can't even find the manual for the board.


here is the link for the via Sata driver http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=420&OSID=1&CatID=1180&SubCatID=143 click on the drive station icon under via v raid driver. follow in the instructions on making a floppy with driver on it. you will need this at the f6 prompt when installing windows.

I know it says msi but i believe the driver will still work since its the same controller and its the only place i can find the driver for it. you have to make the floppy for this too and install at f6 prompt when installing windows.

Alright, now that I have the correct drivers.....I found another problem. I don't think my floppy drive is working correctly. Whenever I put a floppy disk in, it says:

A:\ is not accessible

No ID address mark was found on the floppy disk.

Now I tried the same floppy disk on my other computer and it works fine. Everything looks like it's hooked up correctly, so I don't know whats wrong. When I put the floppy disk in with the SATA drivers, it's like the windows installation doesn't even recognize it's there.
 
the only thing i can suggest is to format the floppy and recopy the driver to the floppy and try again. but i'm also finding out that when coping to floppy on one computer and taking it to another, just sometimes don't work right. not sure if its XP, the floppy, or the drive, or combination thereof. trial and error i guess.
 
It's not just that, whenever I put a floppy in whether it be a fresh one with nothing on it or one with something on it, my computer says the same thing...
 
Ok, I switch out the floppy drives and now i have a working one in my computer. I tried each of those drivers listed and once I specified them in the installation, I got the same message as before saying that it does not recognize a hard disk.
 
usually to get into the bios you either press f1,f2, or delete key. it usually tells you on bootup but they usually call it "setup". don't go changing anything that isn't what you need.
 
without the manual as a guide i can't say. and i tried looking for the manual but its all in a different language.
 
I took a look at the user's manual and went into bios. The thing is, there is supposed to be an option to change between SATA and RAID for Promise 579 Mode, but that option is not there for me.
