Hello.
I just got a new Mac Book and I want to give my Dell Inspiron laptop to my mother-in-law.
Well, I was stupid enough to let some spyware and viruses in it, and nothing seems to treat them:( Then I tried to completely reinstall the OS (XP over 2000 pro), and when I try to boot the disk this is what i get:

The procedure entry point NtUnloadKeyEx could not be located in the dynamic library ntdll.dll.

I have no idea what that means and how to fix it....I would appreciate any help.

Thank you

Walk us through how you're trying to re-install. Are you formatting the HDD first or trying to put XP over 2k without cleaning the Drive? What kind of XP Install CD do you have?

reinstalling xp

I am simply putting the disk (reinstallation CD Microsoft windows home edition" and trying to boot computer from it. Or I tried to just open it and start installation. That's when the message pops up. I have used this CD on other laptops with no problem.
I also tried to use Vista and it wouldn't install saying it requires 512 memory, when this dell is only 254....

please help me to reinstall the os...or maybe there's a good spyware removing program that will help? I never really had to deal with viruses before, so this is very frustrating.

thanks

Vista does require 512 mb of ram though. To reinstall the os, you need to first format the drive. when thats done, then pop in the install disk.

Or just pop in the disk, boot to it, and follow the install steps. Just be sure to do a disk format.

reinstalling xp

that's the problem, it wouldn't open the disk, it shows me the message I have pasted in the first post.

is there any way to format the drive without the disk? how do i do that?

When you first put the windows disk in the drive do you ever get a "Select drive to partion window"? Usually when I go to reinstall windows it gives me the option to partion / format a drive and than install windows upon completion.

when you boot you didnt get a message that says "press any key to boot from cd..." ? that should popup and you press a key and windows setup should begin off the disk. then when you get to a screen asking you to choose the type of install you want, press return. eventually you will come to a screen asking what partition you want to install it on. if there is only the one, choose it. it will ask how you want to format, i would do the full-not the quick.then, after that, you should be able to follow some easy prompts and endup rebooting into windows
