REinstalling XP pro

i have XP pro on my system. my harddrive recently crashed. if i install a new harddrive, or if i restore my current drive, can i reinstall XP on either of the two? i'm afraid the problem might be when i call to have the software activated - i won't be able to activate it because it'll seem as if i'm trying to install it again on another system.
 
Yea, I've had to do that before, and they were OK with it.. Then they will give you the activation code, plug it in, and your done :)
 
So, If you get a brand new harddrive to replace one that you currently have it'll work?

I'm going to be getting a biggerone soon, and just wanted to make sure :) :) :)

i doubt it will matter much which ever you install the os to.
Just put it on either of your hard drives it will be fine. When you finished installing connect the pc to the web, it will chech your cd key againt the microsft regsitered database and see that your machine matches the one that activated the product in the first place and just activate it automatically.
Windows generates a code based on the hardware that you have installed in your machine, you are allowed to change few things before the codes start causing hissy fits when tyring to reactivate. But 1 hdd change shouldn't be enough.

this pc isn't online. its used for one specific purpose (audio recording). so...if i call MS and explain that i'm reformatting my drive (or changing drives due to corruption), and i need to activate xp again, they'll activate xp pro again for me?
