reinstalling xp

hi there '
i m goin to format my drive and reinstall windows.
last i did it windows didnot recognise my seconf hard drive and i had to go into " manage "
and reactivate it only to find out that there is nothing on it.
is there a way to avoid it?

probably the first time when you did it, you didn't notice your second hard drive was unformatted so thats why you had to format it.
if you already have data on it now, you can format your C, there won't be any problem

let me try and explain again.

i have a 80 gb hdd. lets call it hd 1:
on it i have 2 partitions( c,d).
windows xp is on the boot partit., c:.
i have added a second hdd, call it hd 2, by Wd 320 gb.
i have formatted it and everything is ok. i haved moved some of the dat from d: to hd 2( which is now called h:).
i then reinstall xp on partit. c:, and of course by doing so, c: was formatted.

the case being now is that xp does recognise hd2 if i go to " disc management" but it is not active. in order to activate it xp wants me to format hd 2 ( the same applies to prtit. d, by the way.)

what to do? and why this is happening?!

thanx in advance

so you got 1 HD and youve made 2 partitions, one is windows, and the other is data or backup. id say format partition 1 and 2, put windows on 1st partition (c) and format partition 2 (d) using NTFS and save all your data here

if windows doesnt recognise your drive d im afraid its corrupt and need to reformat it
