Its probably a cheap alternative to quad-cores.

..If you boo at AMD why are you even looking at their processors..?

This was already discussed in http://www.computerforum.com/118777-amd-releassing-triple-cpu.html

It's purely a yeild increasing thing. If one core isn't functioning properly they turn it off and sell it as a 3-core instead of a quad core.
Oh sorry about that i looked at the last page and didn't see it.
Interesting.. so does that mean that some quads can be octos ?
i would rather spend the extra and get a q6600 from intel.

Ya i would too. ;)

AMD is releasing a 6 core too at 45nm. called the Shanghai/Istanbul. And they claim they are going to do what Intel does and slap 2 together for a 12 core.

The next socket will be AM3 with DDR3 support. But the AM2 - AM2+ and AM3 will all have the same pin layout.

Wonder how expensive 6 cores will be..? Why do people always rip on AMD too lol I prefer them over Intel.

Because since the Core 2 came out AMDs are slower clock for clock. If your really into overclocking Intel is really the only way to go. If your running them stock depending on price and your not wanting the fastest CPU out its really a toss up
