Remember your first build?

Ah, I remember it like yesterday. It was 6 years ago, I went to a huge computer convention. I had just gotten the state of the art 32MB AGP Graphics card, custom case and a good ol CPU which I have no idea what socket or speed is at the moment...but any way, what was your first build? Its always nice to see the new generation of computer literate kids making their first build. Warms my heart to see their faces, smile and all when their computer first boots up. Man I'm getting old, but hay, 96 and still go'n strong.

96 my butt checks

of course I remember it I'm on it right now! although now that I look back on it I made some bad choices on parts....should of gone socket 939 instead of 754 but oh well I'll upgrade soon

Yes my first build is in "My Desktop" link in my sig.

When I first put it together, and tried to turn it on, it would not come on for nothing. So I took it down to one of my local computer repair shops (one of my school teacher works there) and after playing around with it we found that I hooked the floppy drive power connector up wrong causing a short

Well there's my story on my first build :/

AMD Duron 850
Abit KT7E
128MB PC133
30GB HD
Voodoo3 3000 PCI
Sound Blaster 16 PCI
8x4x32 CD-RW
48x CD-ROM

I did quite a few upgrades, going through 3 different video cards, all the different hard drives(that's when I was upgraded to a 40GB because they kept dying) a new sound card, Athlon 1.4GHz, etc etc. All in all, that was an awsome computer. I sometimes wish I still had it...

I was either 10 or 11. I probably built over a dozen 486 and Pentium based PC's back then. I spent most of my days repairing and building a small collection of PCs. I was always trying to make them faster. The biggest breakthrough I had was when I borrowed a copy of Windows 95 from a friend and started using that instead of DOS and 3.1.

My first ever ground up build was my own PC two years ago, but like changing stuff and poking around in my PC, I've been doing that for like 4 or 5 years. I've built 3 of my friends PC's, including the latest one last week, when I built my friend a sick gaming rig with an AMD X2 5000+ and a ATI X1950XTX. :D

my cables have been cleaned up since the pics in my sig too!

skidude i have no idea why u used a x2 +5000, when a oc'd e6300 would beat it with a gigabyte s3 for like 300$ for mobo and cpu
