remote access query

recently the words "remoteAccess" appeared at the bottom of my laptop screen. When I clicked on it there was a namePC...The person named said that they had not used the laptop ever. They were unsure how this would get there - its a mystery. He thinks it may be to do with sharing the same internet access and him having "shared files". Does anyone know if this is the answer. Can anyone explain in simple terms?I deleted the "remote access" and it has not returned. Thanks!:confused:
 
Where at on the screen exactly? Was it down in the task bar? You might want to scan your system for malware.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here or here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Please keep updating until it says you have the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • A log will be saved automatically which you can access by clicking on the Logs tab within Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware


Download the HijackThis installer from here.
Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

Most of what HijackThis lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Post the logfile that HijackThis produces along with the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log
 
Thanks Johnb35. Sorry, I made mistake. It actually read NAME PC REMOTE. And it came under the "Network" section on the left hand side of screen when I opened documents. When clicked on it had a number of images. The person named has access to my internet wireless network and also uses an x box. He thinks its something to do with this shared internet access and his x box or shared files. could this be correct? I'm rather a novice at computer technology!!!
 
that may be. your router and wireless should be using a mac for authorized wireless and password. Sending a message to the screen would require the messenger service be turned on. i don't use.
Airsnare from what i recall comes to mind. capable of sending message to screen like windows netsend. And not from the lan side. from the wan.

best to follow up with JohnB35 until ya know. this would be a biggy concern.

I don't see anything sticking out that would cause that. You should uninstall the ask toolbar software in add/remove programs, however, you may have installed it when you installed limewire.

Is there anyway you can post a screen shot of where it says that?
