Remote access.....

Yo, how do i know if someone has remote access or has accessed my computer? and how can i block it from happening again, cuz my g/fs dad has been getting into my computer and looking at my stuff. it really pisses me off since he has no business, and how could i return the favor and do the same to him?
 
First of all, we will not tell you how to get back. However, do one simple thing. Download a good firewall (perhaps Sunbelt Personal Firewall), a good antivirus (Avast!) and some tool for removal of spyware and adware (perhaps Windows Defender). That should do the trick.

my g/f told me everything he saw, which everything she told me i had, even if it was hidden or w/e. is there a history of connections that would show you who accessed your comuter or not?
 
Actually I have heard from my IT Pro buddies that Self-Defense exists online just as it does in real life. If your computer is being hacked, Federal Law apparently allows you to defend your computer and fight back is necessary...you just have to prove that you acted in Self-Defense. You might want to check with a attorney in your state though...because the state law might be different.

I would install a firewall to block access to all ports. Also try checking to see what programs load when the computer turns on...to make sure a program such as VNC is not running. (VNC is a remote access program for business/home usage) Go Start > Run and type Msconfig then click the Statup Tab.

You should also find some anti-malware software and scan for any remote access software or trojans.

If you own his computer you are allowed to install remote access to his computer. But if you do not own his computer, it is considered illegal to install software on his computer.

As our resident self appointed bastion of legal knowledge, any action you take to protect your PC must be legal, any counter hacking, and sending of virus', malware, and abusive emails would all be illegal and you could not justfy self-defence and the action would not be deemed appropraite response.

there is no history, you can do spyware scans which may identify the application he is using. But unless he has had direct access your PC while you weren't there or has sent you some files which you have opened I doubt he has access.
The remotely hack machine would require VERY VERY good it skills and very specific ones. I couldnt do it, and would have to learn if i wanted to accomplish it.
 
yeah, hes in another state, but he does own many businesses and he has alot of money, so im not sure what hes capable of, but ok thanks, i downloaded that sunbelt firewall and stuff, thanks alot. hope it dont happen again

Good way to monitor whats going on, but I dont think it works with vista (yet). Might be worth a try...
 
remote access requires that you have a password for a valid account that is on your machine locally. Make sure all your accounts are password protected, and don't let anyone have the passwords. Problem solved

ok i did that and there is one with jsut a blank there, if i disable some of those items would it be harmful to my computer?
 
ok not to mention he would have to know the following:

1) Your WAN IP, which is most likely dynamic

2) an account or access to an account

3) You would have to have ports 5900 open (vnc) and/or 3389 (MS RDC) on your router

I don't think this dude has access to your computer.
 
Windows has some services running at all times, if you haven't turned them off, that are popular hacking tools. Run Services.msc and just look around..... I will check it out and get back to you
 
is there anyway he can look at my last played files such as pics, music, videos? cuz thats really what happened, told me my last played files and my browsing history

Are you behind a router? Routers block all ports unless forwarded for remote access. Unless this guy has planted some sort of trojan. Almost every default retail router support NAT which by default does not allow any remote host to connect.

Has this person ever had physical access to your computer?
