Hey guys,

i have seen many threads about this, but anyway.

I'm at a friends and we just reinstalled XP Pro on his desktop and we want to be able to connect to the vista home premium wireless laptop. I can connect to the XP from the Vista laptop and we can connect to the XP machine on the vista laptop, but not the other way.

Now i have checked the settings under the vista laptop and it has nothing about remote connection... does this mean that it can't be accessed by the XP computer???

Thanks in advance...

Also, can you pls help me with this http://www.computerforum.com/125073-how.html#post1020033

Make sure that you are on the same workgroup. Vista will let you control/access computers and shares even if they are not on the same workgroup, however XP is not as willing.

The default workgroup for XP is MSHOME, where as the default workgroup for Vista is WORKGROUP.

Any other ideas?

In vista remote desktop is only available in Ultimate and in Business. Since MS feature limits. You should google search some VNC connections.

Actually, scrap that idea. Just install logmein from www.logmein.com. Set up an account and add computers to it. It controls everything over a web browser so it only needs port 443 and port 80 open on your router, which are both open by default. It does everything over HTTPS (so it is encrypted and secure) and as long as both computers have the client you are good to go. No need to mess with routers, port forwarding, or any of that junk.

Yeah, thought so, like you can only remote desktop a computer with XP pro, for example. Don't worry about, i just thought you could do it. My friend and i thought it would be good to play a trick to his brother and sister every now and again :P but don't worry about it, thanks anyway.

You can remote control any version of XP or Vista, it's that only XP Pro and Vista Business/Ultimate have the ability to control other computers.

Cohen, I mid-read your question, I thought you were having a problem connecting, not looking for a way to get RDC on the computer.

Windows Vista Home Premium has RDC on it, i can control the XP, but not vice versa, not XP to Vista, because Vista won't let you.

Don't worry about it now.

It is quite dumb that you need to upgrade to Ultimate to get it, but hey I guess that is why its worth $300>
