remote desktop within my network

Hi, i have been happily using remote desktop between my laptop via wireless and a pc in my loft wired to the router. the other day, i lost connection and could only reset factory settings on router. after reconfiguring the router, the wireless is fine to surf the net, but will not connect to remote desktop anymore. it says: the client could not connect to the remote computer blah, blah, please contact network administrator. if i use the same laptop with a network cable plugged into the router, the remote desktop works fine. please help me
 
make sure both are getting an IP from your router and that the IP hasn't changed, since its most likely dynamic.
 
yeah but if he is using DHCP the lease on the IPs could be up and they may have changed. if thats the case, just set your own IPs
 
If he had to reset his router back to default im sure the IPs have changed unless he has a static ip. also if he is able to remote desktop while wired, it should not be a IP issue unless he is getting a differnt IP for each type of connection . but I would say its worth looking into.

It can easily be an IP issue if it has changed from lets say for example from 192.168.1.110 to 192.168.1.111 and if the client is still set to connect to the older IP then it is an IP issue.

Resetting the router may also have reset QoS and any other type of restriction for the remote desktop client, also the firewall could be blocking it.

Look in your event viewer on the remote system and see if there are any error logs and what they are for a remote host requesting connection.
