Remote Screen help

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone knows of an application that allows you to remote to another computer and use its screen as an extended desktop or something like that?
 
so you want the remote screen to be extended to another monitor ? yeah sure you can why not just use the standard remote desktop in XP, or you can use Real VNC.

no, I want to basically use a screen off my laptop as if it was plugged into my computer and use it as an extended desktop screen.
 
does that make it any clearer? I have heard of some software that does something like that but I'm not sure what it's called or if it actually does it so thats not much help

What video card do you have on your desktop computer? Does it support dual-monitors?

If it doesn't, maybe someone here knows of a way around that.
 
...well its nothing to do with that...but yes my video card supports dual monitors, still need the software to do that

I guess I'm just not totally clear with what exactly you want to do.
  • Are you talking about having your laptop connected to a network shared by both computers?
  • Or are you wanting to use the internet to connect the two together?
  • Or do you not care about them being networked and you just want to use the screen of the laptop as a second monitor but you don't want to connect it to the video card on your desktop pc?
And by "extended desktop" do you mean - the desktop pc uses the laptop's display as an extension (in other words, you could drag a window from one display into the other).
OR
Do you mean "remote desktop" - where one computer controls the other one?

no worries. my laptop and pc are networked and yes that is the definition of extended desktop I am on about.
It would be nice to connect the screen of a laptop to my computer somehow aswell though...as I have lots of laptops and some don't work...but yeh...thats not what I was on about
 
So you want to use your laptop monitor as a second monitor? If so I dont think it would work that well, even if they are directly connected. Remote desktop software always has lag time, so you wont be able to watch videos or play games (well) on the laptop.
 
I'm not really planning on doing anything graphically intensive, I just want to know how to do it as it would be useful. Besides I've already got dual screen anyway.
 
So will your laptop be sitting right next to your pc or will it be in a different room? Because if it will be right next to the pc, can't you just connect it to your video card? Hm, not sure if that would work.

Anyway, all I could find so far is this. Check it out and see if it helps.

They might be the same thing, because the "mac" one says it is also for pc. Just look at both and see if we're getting closer to answering your question. :)
 
that may well be it, I'll check it out now. They will be in the same room but I can't physically connect it as that would require a video input on the laptop, which there isnt

You cant use a laptop monitor as a secondary monitor for a PC, but you can do the opposite.

Remote Display has been withdrawn on 2007/07/16. Please do not purchase a license.
