Remote Volume Project

I have a nice stereo receiver that I use for music and movies on my computer, but sometimes I need my little compaq speakers for times when I dont want to fire up the big amp. I keep the small speakers hidden behind my monitor, but I hate reaching around every time I want to turn the volume up/down. So I made the volume come to me.

I desoldered the potentiometer from the PCB on the speaker, then used cat6 cable to extend the range of the pot. Then emptied out an old hard drive and drilled some holes in the casing. A cool looking cap nut to finish it off, and I'm really pleased with the final look and workings. I grounded the pot to the case because there was some fuzz, but after that they sound as good as they did before: horrible! :p

Comments please. :)

I have that exact same hot glue gun! :D

Nice job, I never would have thought of using a hard drive. Probably just left the pot attached to the wire with electrical tape XD.
