Remove Failed Windows Updates

I have a computer that downloaded some windows updates. Unfortunately, for some reason every time I go to shut down the computer it tries to install the updates and fails. It's getting rather annoying and I was wondering if there is a good way to remove the updates and tell the computer not to download them again because they will just continue to fail to install. This is a computer running windows xp professional by the way.

ive had problems like that. what i did is uninstall any that did not take. goto run %appdata% and delete all occurrences. then again im sure theres security updates you may be interested in. read the thread. maybe it will be helpful.
