I cant seem to get rid of Window live messenger from start-up. Everytime i use the system configuration ultlity and uncheck Messenger it always reapears next time i start up. Anyone know how to get rid of it (from start up) permanently?

are you running windows XP? if so follow along:):

1. go to start>run> and type in regedit

2. go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

and double click on run.

3. on the right should be what starts up, delete the Window live messenger from the list.

4. Then right click on run and choose export, and name it somthing like: startup, and save it to the desktop.

5. go to start>run> and type in: %userprofile%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.

6. Copy the file that you saved to the desktop into the folder that just opened.

Plaease let me know if you want me to make anything clearer.:)

Or

(1) Select "Start"
(2) Choose "Control Panel"
(3) Choose "Administrative Tools"
** note in Windows XP Home edition, Admistrative Tools is in Performance and Maintence
(4) Choose "Services"
(5) Right-click on "Messenger"
(6) Select "Stop"
To permanently disable Messenger:
(7) Right click "Messenger"
(8) Select "Properties"
(9) Change "Startup Type" to "Disabled" and click "OK"

As Burgerbob said, do it in the MSN Messenger Live first. Then go back to the config tool and if it's still there, do that again. What Emperor_nero and StrangleHold said basically does the same thing the config tool just did. Just different methods. So if you don't have it disabled in the program itself first, it will keep adding it on even after you when and disable/remove/unchecked it.

So, go do it in Messenger Live first.
Tools>Options>General
Make sure automatically run when windows starts up is unchecked
