Removing a CPU

I have removed several CPUs out of family computers and it seems that I always end up bending a few pins while taking them out. When ever I take the heatsink out the CPU pulls out right along with it. Does anyone have suggestions on how to remove a CPU+heatsink without bending the pins?

There is a tool you can use it's tongs designed for removing cpu's. Try those.

Run the computer for awhile, like play a game on it, the heatsink comes off easier when their warm!

Hmmm. Iv never had a problem removin a CPU and its heatsink. You could also in alot of cases if the cooler on the CPU isnt that big open the socket first then pull on the heatsink. Or as suggested let the thermal compound/pad get nice and warm so it will come off easier.

Try taking the heatsink off first before removing the CPU. Dont try removing both at the same time.

I'll try heating up the heatsink next time I need to take it off. My heatsink is too big to open the lever first. I dont try to take off both at the same time, when I try to take the heatsink off, the CPU comes with it

Did you try wiggling the heatsink until it came off the CPU? That's what I did to take out my old 3200+, it took a little while, but it came off without pulling the CPU with it.
