Removing DVD

I have an ACER Aspire 5000 laptop, I cannot get the DVD player out to replace it. I removed the screw on the bottom, cannot locate the normal 2nd screw. Anyone out there that can help?

They usually only have one screw holding them in place. Did you try tugging a little?

Or if there is no place to tug, sometimes where there is a screw, you can stick the screwdriver in and push it out. It just depends on the laptop.

And out of the laptops I've disassembled, there have only been one screw.

I pulled, shoved, wedged, cussed, no movement. Next I'll try a hammer. The reason I mentoned "Two Screws", an HP laptop I have taken the DVD out of had two screws. When the DVD in the ACER wouldent move, I thought of a second screw.

Did you try pushing in on the drive? It may have a spring lock on it like the HP NC6220.

Yes, I pushed on the drive every which way, no luch. Using a standard screw driver I wedge it between the drive and the bottom case then twist to the point the plastic starts to deform, the drive only moves 1 mm thats it. I'm going to contact ACER and ask for help, if such is available, there is sonething restraining the drive. So, before I destory the computer, I had better do some research.
Thanks for all your help, if and when I have a solution, I will post it,

The only other thing I could think is maybe try taking the laptop a bit apart and see if there are any under the keyboard or anything.

I removed the cover behind the DVD drive, using a screw driver placed behind the drive and tried to drive it out. Same thing, it only moved about 1 mm. This thing must be welded in!
