Removing Thermal Glue

Do any of you know how to remove thermal glue from a chip?

I found one of my old AGP cards that I can possibly give away, and to find out which it was I had to the the heatsink off to look at the chip, I don't have a working AGP system slieing around. Now though, I can't just stick the heatsink back on, but ATi decided to use ****ing thermal glue instead of paste, so is there a way to get it off?

I was thinking WD40, but that would just leave a greasy layer, and i can't think of anything else that would break it down.

I got the worst off with a flat head screwdriver (gently ofc, not to scratch the chip ;) ) but the little bits aren't coming, i tried using a damp piece of kitchen roll and rub like hell for the last 20 minutes or so and nothing.

Anyone got an ideas?

Old school method. If you are good with a single edge razor blade you can usually get that garbage off.

not tried rubbing alcohol, will se if i can't pick some up at some point.

70% should do right? I mean, i can leave it to dry and all, isn't like i have to get it back into a system
