removing thermal paste from cpu

I can't find alcohol in the house to remove the paste with, is it dangerous to just clean it with paper towel or something? Do i really need to use alcohol to remove the paste?

If its not hardened, just use a corner of a cotton cloth and clean it off the best you can. Its best to use alcohol to get all of the residue out of the imperfections.

its not hardened yet, I just bought this cpu and for 2 weeks i been using stock fan, I have little left on the cpu its self though. Will it be like really terrible if i dont use alcohol?

No its not terrible, if its still soft it will remove 99% of it. The alcohol just removes the residue off the surface. After you get off the most you can use something like Windex. Just (damp) a corner and clean off the surface better. Just make sure its dry before reinstalling.

ah alright thank you :) I just got a new cpu fan for it, Antec khuler 620 liquid cooling for 29 bucks, so really interested in trying it

I just used a tissue the last time I had to clean off. I'm a terrible person for doing it, but it seemed to be good.

Thanks, I ll look into that next time. I just used windex lol..

Anyway, my cpu used to run in 45-50 just surfing, now its at 31c :o

Is there a way to see if the antec liquid cooling is really really working? Like i want to see the model number on like a program on windows like on everest or something, just to feel good lol
