replacement camera lens fried iphone 5s

Hello.

I have an iPhone 5s.

Originally the rear (main) camera had specks of dust on it, so I bought a kit to open the phone up, removed the lens, cleaned it and its housing but it didn't work, so I put it back together. After this, the camera would only work in an app like whatsapp not via the camera app itself.

So I bought a replacement lens on ebay (about £5). I opened the phone again, removed old lens, plugged in new one, replaced the other connections and tried to start the phone. Nothing. It was then that I realised the new lens housing I had just fitted was EXTREMELY HOT, so I unplugged it all immediately. There was a faint 'hot smell' too. I waited a bit, then tried starting the phone without any lens connection, nothing. Same when I tried with the old lens. I am now worried I have fried the motherboard, but I do think it might just be the battery I have fried? In which case it can be replaced.

I guess it was a dodgy replacement lens.

Can anyone help, does anyone have any advice on what to do? Thanks in advance.

My first thought would have been to take it to the Apple store, but I'm not sure how many there are in the UK (could be a drive).

They'd know how to fix it and if your really did fry something you may have to buy a new phone. £5 seems pretty dodgy to me..
