Replacement PSU

Ok been having problems with computer. my second psu im thinking is whats wrong with the PC so im going to purchase another psu, (of course) to replace the one that i think went out.

Heres what i've had so far.

First that came with case

The prices seen there range between $42.99 and $106.99. Anywhere from $85 to $110 will see a good brand supply from 480w to 550w. A supply seen at $42.99 and having 500w of power wouldn't be any good make unless someone was having a big clearance sale.
 
check out the OCZ line at newegg they have a 600 watt high quality model for $94.00 after rebate you arent gonna beat that those are 80 & 85 % efficency models!
 
OCZ is one brand with the universal power connections seen on them. Most of their models are seen that way. But if the system isn't going to used for heavy gaming and ocing you'll never need a 600w supply. I have 550w I still haven't put in until a Sata array is added on top of the two hard drives and two burners. Getting into a good brand with stable supplies is the best move.

ceewi1's point are the main things you should be thinking about, then also about how loud you can stand it being (in dB's that is, not Bling! :P)

Some other things to think of:
Does it have enough of each power connector i need?
Are the connectors of good quallity(the SATA connectors on that 3rd link in your post look dodgy)

Naturally you have to pay something to get something worthwhile. At the same time you have to know what is actually needed. Over 500w for the average system is often a waste while gamers and server cases and tons of addon hardwares demand power. You want the ideal within reason.

Well my system is
AMD 3500+
Asus A8V mobo i think
2GB Corsiar RAM
Asus 6600GT card
Maxtor IDE 80GB HD
Maxtor SATA 200GB HD (storage)
Sony DVD burner
Fan controller
and a total of 3 80mm fans, and 1 120mm fan, plus cpu fan.

Thats pretty much all i have in my case

Im trying to stay around 40-50 dollar range shipped one bc im not quite sure but i think its just my psu and im not gonna buy another psu that costs 150 untill i get every thing working and get some cash and two i dont have alot of cash right now as is. Heh im not even sure why i bought the areocool psu, it was SLI compatible and i am only running the 6600.:( oh well but thanks for all the replys. Ill look at some OCZ psu's.
 
too much PSU will NEVER hurt you the unit only puts out what is needed by the system


most guys seem to agree a 550 watt unit is plenty so why is an extra 50 watts for almost the same money so offensive ?????

also the easier the power units load the longer it will live and the less heat it will emit into the computer box!


when you compare a 89.00 unit thats 550 watt and you can get a higher quality unit for five more dollars thats an easy one for me????

compare efficiencies too !
 
again my point ????? what does a 480 watt cost ??????? almost the same the diff wont buy you a full mcdonalds dinner


480 = $80.00

OCZ 600 = 94.00 after rebate

diff = $14.00 who would do that to save $14.00 especially when the 480 is only 70% efficient ?????

XClio 450BL. A reliable, CWT built unit within your pricerange. Sufficient to power your system.

As for this other discussion, I agree that the OCZ GameXStream is a better value unit than the TPII. For a system like that, however, a $100 PSU is not necessary.

Depending on your budget one of the latest updated Antec models the True Power 3 550w model can be seen for $109.99 at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817371002 This one has three 12v rails

I know that the label says differently, but this is actually a single rail unit (which I consider to be an advantage :)).

I know the feeling. Originally when going to buy the two SLI capable supplies here(like I'll ever run sli or crossfire? :rolleyes: ) the TP II 480w was about .. what $74.95 and the TP II 550w was a catch for $79.99 a few months later. :D The 550w model at the link is actually an updated TP 3 model that was over $150 when first seen(after I bought the other one of course.) But the 550w can stay where it is until... :confused: I could still add a Sata array with two 500gb drives and it would never even notice them.

The one you've referred to is an FSP Saga (AX) unit. Think of them as Fortron's value line, they're not of the same quality as the ones with FSP/SPI part numbers. They're still very good PSUs, but value wise I prefer the XClio units (450BL or Goodpower 500 at the $50 w/o shipping mark).

If you don't mind MIRs, here's a couple of cheap units:
Ultra X-Finity 500W $34.99 after MIR
Ultra V-Series 500W FREE after MIR

That's the company. Ultra's X-Connect line was made by Youngyear, and to be frank, are junk. The X-Finitys are made by Wintech, and are much better. (The V-Series are also low-end Wintech, but for free, you really can't complain).

Take a look at Jonny's post at the bottom of that thread.

Ultra made a big mistake with the X-Connect, but i'm not going to refuse to recommend their entire lineup because it.
 
I have a second gen Ultra X2 550w, and it has served up all the power I need, with the benefit of stability :)
