Replacing a Broken Power Supply

I have a Dell (lol dell) Xps 720. 6 months ago the power supply went bad. Dell replaced it for free since it was under warranty.

Last week, power flickered in my house and my computer cut off. Since then the computer won't start unless I open up the tower and clear the charge by hooking and unhooking the wires.

Today, it won't start at all. I’m pretty sure the power supply has gone bad again. I'm not sure what to do. My computer is out of warranty and dell wants 50 dollars just to tell me the power supply has gone bad. I'm wondering what my options are. Should I get another piece of shit from Dell or look into other manufacturers? My power supply has a maximum output of 750w. Should I look for something higher?

Please forgive me. I know enough about computers to replace the parts but not enough to answer questions like these.

The computer is not a piece of shit your electrical service is. No matter how good a system is when you have a power outage/brown out and your voltage spikes up and down it can kill anything. What you need is a good quaility UPS to protect your investment. Dell makes fine computers that work very well and that's why there is such a market for refurbished Dell computers. A quick question if you think Dells are shitty computers then why did you buy one?

To answear your power supply question you can buy a power supply from a third party company for much cheaper then you can directly from Dell. Google is your friend here.

Plus the fact you had a power surge, you could have wiped out more than just the psu...
