In my old computer, I have a Pentium 2 with windows xp. It is super slow, wich is attributed to many things, but I got a free Pentium 4 from a local business who was getting rid of their computers, and my question was, can I just switch them out no problem?

Ive installed some before, so I know how to do it, but I was just checking that it will work.

No the CPU socket would be the wrong kind. Do you know any more about the P4? like what socket it is?

download CPUz to find out what socket you computer is.

Did you get the CPU only or the whole computer? Cause it'd be kinda wierd if they just gave you the chip. But if so, no you cannot switch it, as the P4 is either socket 423, 478 or 775, and the pentium 2 is some ancient socket (or slot?) that i dont know.

you could possible get a Slot 1 to Socket 370 adapter, i did that 2 my 110, and upgraded from 667MHZ, 2 1GHZ..
