Replacing CPU Fan...

Alright... so my smart self just hit the cpu fan while it was spinning. It hurt. I sliced my finger and broke a blade off of the fan. I need to replace it. What do I need to look for in a replacement fan? Does it have to be the same thickness? I have one that's like a half a thick, but I think as wide. Can I throw it on? or...

EDIT: Nevermind. One is just way bigger. What are the different fan sizes so I know what to get?

I believe its an AMD Sepmron 3000+. Its in what I believe to be a compaq presario sr1000, but I can't find another sr1000 with the same processor. So I'll double check. Is it possible that CPU-z told me the wrong cpu?
 
Have you looked at the model number of the fan? That should be on the centre of the fan (one side only). You can look up the fan on the Internet. A direct replacement is the simplest option.

The replacement fan must be the same basic size eg 80mm and should have at least the same CFM. The speed and thickness do not have to be the same as the existing fan but they will determine how noisy the fan is. A high speed fan with thin blades may be equivalent to a low speed fan with deep blades. The low speed fan will generally be quieter.

Some fan sizes are out of fashion. You can get adapter kits to go to the next larger fan eg 70mm to 80mm which gives a greater choice of fan.
 
is the retention mechanism the same clamp style thing that all amd cpu's have used for a long while? if so, just grab a cheap used amd heatsink off ebay... thats what i would do vs changing the fan out, but thats my $0.02

would be nice to know what socket it is...theres an ebay listing here...for a 939 3500+ and a heatsink...for 10 bucks....which would be a kick in the pants, but i dont think that system is a 939 chip.
