replacing hdd

Hi

My current hard drive is getting full and I am considering getting another hard drive to replace it and use the old one as a slave. My question is, can you copy all the contents of the old hard drive to the new hard so that it boots with the new hard drive with all the contents of the old harddrive?

I have partitioned the old hard drive in 3. Would I have to back up the old hard drive onto an external then transfer it to the new hard drive then format the old one?

Sorry for being such a noob

Thanks Law

You can download the drive utility for whatever brand hard drive you are getting and it will clone your old drive to the new one.

Thanks. Would it still keep the same partitioning sizes of the old or would you be able to change it, or do you get that option anyway when you first installed it at boot? (Im getting a larger sized hard drive.)

Depends on the software, but it should copy each partition separately to the new drive. Haven't used the software in ages.
