Replacing motherboard - heatsink/thermal paste question

I am finally getting my Sandy Bridge replacement motherboard and have a question about removing the processor. I have the i5-2500k and it is not overclocked, I was just using the stock heat sink. Since the processor has the thermal paste on it, I imagine that will need to be replaced when I remove the processor and heat sink and put it on the new motherboard. I am just wondering if I just need to buy some thermal paste, and if the paste that is on there now will have to be cleaned off or does it just kind of disappear since it has been on there. Or am I better off buying a different heat sink or cooler that is not too expensive. I don't really have any heat issues though since it is not overclocked. What do you guys think is the best bet?

Sounds like you'd be pk with the stock hs.
But one thats better wouldn't hurt. You can get a better than stock hs for not much money. Esp if you consider just good thermal past would be 10-12$, and a new hs can come with it.

Isopropyl alcohol from the corner drug store, to clean thermal paste.

I was thinking that too since the paste costs around $10. Can you point me in the direction of something that is better for not that much more? I don't even care if it is $20 or $30. This was the first computer I built so I am not real familiar with heatsinks or coolers. But the computer has been great so far thanks to all the help from this forum. Thanks again.

Hey thanks for the advice. Is that one compatible though? I see it says it is with Intel socket 775 and 1366 but doesn't mention 1155.

Yeah, it is.
Don't know what happened. The Hyper 212 , or 121+ was supposed to ne in there. Zalman makes good too.
