Replacing Old harddrive

My hard drive has been having loading problems and telling me i have major "disc errors" so i ordered a new one and it came today.

Before i put in my new HD when i turned on my compt the first loading screen tell what gigabyte MB i bought. the next screen loads super fast w/o being able to see anything and the next one after that that comes right before the windows colors start to load, it gets stuck. The screen is black with the l l l l looking symbol flashing in the top left corner. Thats all it would do not going any further. Just that l...l...l...l.

So i took out the old HD, put in the new HD and loaded up the compt and the same thing happened, im stuck on that screen.

Do i need to hit a certain load key to tell the computer a new HD has been put in? I hope im making sence.

The new hard drive is blank. You need to install windows on it. Since the old drive had errors I don't recommend cloning the old drive to the new one.

As far as the old drive having errors, what specifically told you the drive had errors?
 
Thanks for the replies, i thought the computer would have gone to another screen before installing windows..oh well silly me :p

I build my computer last september. It has been an outstanding computer so far. All i do is play a few games on it. Well i had no problems tell december. I woke up one morning and it took a solid 20 to 30 minutes to get to the main windows screen. It was so damn slow. So when i finally got to the windows screen i immediately restarted it. Same problem.....suuuuuuper slow. So i went into system restore and choose a date back in september to go back to. Other than losing a few files everything was back to normal.

Now i don't use thise computer for anything but 4 games. I don't download any random garbage,,,at this time i didn't even download any porn! It really made no sense to me why i had this issue because i was using the computer for basically nothing.

Then on christmas day same problem. Except this time i had to hit the restart key on the tower many times because i couldn't even get to the desktop screen. It took me all day to finally get the restore up and running again. This problem continued every 3 to 4 weeks. Sometimes i would play one of my games and all of the sudden its like the computer couldn't run the game. Everything just slowed down into a terrible lag. The computer kept saying i had "disk errors" of some kind.

So i read around on the internet and from random websites, blogs and forums it sounded like my HD was a dud. Then last week same problem except this time i didn't turn off the computer. I just put it into sleep mode. I countinued to use the computer for many days just putting it in sleep mode. Then i decided to turn it off one night and the next morning i couldnt get into the windows screen. I just had that l....l...l...l... in the top left corner. So i ordered a new HD and am currently installing windows again.
 
Sounds like you are infected if its telling you have hard drive errors. Have you ran malwarebytes on it?

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here or here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Please keep updating until it says you have the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • A log will be saved automatically which you can access by clicking on the Logs tab within Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

If for some reason Malwarebytes will not install or run please download and run Rkill.scr, Rkill.exe, or Rkill.com but DO NOT reboot the system and then try installing or running Malwarebytes. If Rkill (which is a black box) appears and then disappears right away or you get a message saying rkill is infected, keep trying to run rkill until it over powers the infection and temporarily kills it. Once a log appears on the screen, you can try running malwarebytes or downloading other programs.

If you continue to experience problems after doing this, please post a HijackThis log by doing the following:

Download the HijackThis installer from http://www.trendmicro.com/ftp/products/hijackthis/HiJackThis.msi.

Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

Most of what HijackThis lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Post the logfile that HijackThis produces along with the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log
