replacing power supply

I need to replace the power supply in my computer. Can I use a power supply out of another computer I have? What do I need to look for to find out if it is compatible?
Thank you

All wattages and voltages are different. If you give it a very oversufficient PSU, your efficiency will drop. If you underpower it, your system would not start up or crash in games.

Well thats beyond my expertise but I thankyou. Sometimes it powers on but mostly it doesnt so I thought it was the power supply. Any other possibilites that I might be able to fix? I was told that maybe the jumpers were wrong but It seems it wouldnt power on intermittently if it was the jumpers.

No it wouldn't be the jumpers. I'm also betting on the PSU. Go ahead and try ther other power supply. But don't be suprised if lacks in connectors or doesn't power on at all.

Thanks for the suggestions folks, I havent done anything with it yet. Kinda scary for me to mess with the power box but one of these days.............

It's 4 screws and a buncha connectors. Not hard at all. There's no real way to "mix up" the connectors or anything. It'd be even quite hard to get the HDD power cable installed upside down :)
