I was just wondering if there was a way to set a password that a user must enter to allow restarting/shutting down windows xp.
Is that in any way possible?

Thanks.

control panel / user accounts.
You can set to limited or admin rights. either with password
to log in. Never seen anything for shutting down though.
would think that was a minor. getting into windows what i would be concerned with.

Try editing.. control panel---local security policy--local policies---user rights assignment---shut down the system

Dont know if it will apply to restart too... but it wont ask you for a password. only users defined in there will be able to shutdown the computer and that might be good enough.

that might stop them from shutting down through windows but they can always do a hard shutdown using the power button...

Like said, they could just hold the power button down. You can change the power button in windows to (nothing) so it wont shut down. But I guess they still could just push the reset button. Or unplug the thing LOL

Well your never going to solve that one, unless your BIOS has a setting in it for "do nothing" when the power button is pressed and your computer is locked in a cabinet with a key so they cant pull the plug out of the back and the fuse box is locked so they cant flip a breaker.
