Reseting the IP address on a Macintosh?

I was wondering what the cmd ipconfig/ release ipconfig/ renew type reset for Macintosh computers was. If that doesn't make any sense, maybe this will. How do you reset an IP address on a Macintosh computer without rebooting it?
 
Thanks man, I didn't actually need to reset a mac IP address right now, but my dad needed to know how, so I'm sure this'll work!
