Resetting Virtual Ram

I just bought a 1 gb stick of ram to upgrade my computer from Best buy. One of the Geek squad guys asked if I was doing this myself. I told him yes and he asked if I was going to reset my virtual memory. I was not aware that this had to be done to upgrade memory. How is this done and is this necessary? Thanks in advance....

They just want you to be confused so you bring it to them instead.

When you install new memory (given it's the right kind (DDR, DDR2, etc)), all you need to do is turn off and unplug your computer, and insert the RAM. All data that is stored in the RAM is automatically erased when you completely power down your computer anyways.

Thanks -omega- I thought they were trying to make some money off me, but I wanted to make sure. I appreciate it.

No, you don't have to reset virtual memory, Windows will look after VM automatically and resize if necessary.

Perhaps what he meant was if your computers virtual memory or paging file has been set manually, as their is a belief that the more physical memory you have, the less virtual memory is needed. But this depends on what software you have installed.

Just shove it in and forget what he said.:)
