which is better.

Higher resolution, but lower settings?

Or lower reoslution but higher settings?

Im asking as with my rig i cant have both :P lol and i just wanted some other input.

(i presumed this goes in this section as im talking only about games)

^^ Real helpful Fremendar, ill keep that in mind next time im ripping my money tree apart :D

Just out of curiosity what pc do you have? and may i ask how you grow your money tree because yours is better than mine obviosuly.

I would go for a balance. I don't want my textures and shadows looking crap, but then at the same time I don't want the screen to look all blocky. Given the choice of one or the other though, I would take settings over resolution

Well thats throw a spanner in the works, is there a way to put another option in the poll? I didnt even think about a middle ground :P

One I built myself. I'll post the specifications later.

High resolution low settings that was on my old machine running an Ati x800pro. No worries now though. :)

Also maybe "FremenDar" could loan you his money tree. :P

Well, when I can get the chance to play a game on a computer worth gaming on, I always think Resolution > AA

So resolution over settings is what I am going to go with.

Im definately inclined to agree with the majority, hopefully ill one day have a machine capable of both but for now resolution seems the way to go :D

I start with maxing the resolution to whatever my monitor native size is, and then working on beefing up everything else.

It seems on the old CRT's you could get away with a lesser resolution with no ill effects and sometimes come out better with bumping the other stuff.

With LCD's anything other than native tends to not look so good. This is also why you might not want to buy a huge native res monitor. If you know you are going to be on a budget then a higher res monitor will result in needing a stronger more expensive video card. As long as I'm around 1080P-ish levels I figure I'm at HD levels and am happy.

^^ I like that way of thinking, im in the market for a new monitor as mine is stuffed, so i reckon working with the mardware in mind will lead to a better experiance while i have such a poor rig :P
