Hi , never thought id have to try register on a tiny res well heres my problem about 2 days ago my pc turns itself off and when i got it back on my resolution wont change from 640 x 480 and i have white lines down my screen about 10 so
example | | | 4 lines then space then 4 lines again across my screen the colours are really off im running a old monitor with a custom built pc nvidia geforce 9500GT video card. Now it wont detect the card and ive been playing around an searching all over google. Could my card be broke while the fan is still working? Or could my monitor have passed it sell by date or have a broken cable.

PS: i have no extra hardware i can test with this. i am waiting on a monitor to come in a few days.

Any help would be really great !

Sounds like your graphics card has given up.

To check, restart your computer in Safe Mode with Networking (Tap F8 on boot)

Download and install the latest nVidia driver at http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Scan.aspx?lang=en-us (make sure you install the ActiveX)

Restart normally and post results.

If still an issue, your card is likely to be broken. Also what PSU do you have as that may be the cause. (model and brand)

all the information i know.

If the card is broken would the fan still work? this is the only video i have and i can still get onto my pc.

ok Ive restarted with networking safe mode and still i have lines and cant change the resolution. The other day also the PC wouldn't boot past the XP loading it would just shut off the screen so i played around with the monitor cable squeezing and shaking it about and it managed to come back on. Any speculations on this?
