my hp pavilion dv8000 is restarting or just putting up a blank screen more and more often. I've been monitering the heat temp, which enless the #'s its showing me are wrong, is fine. I checked the system record and it's not reporting any errors. sometimes after a shutdown it wont turn back on, rather i get a blinking power light. it will cont. to do this even after cooled, i fix the problem by taking the battery out for a min or so. Possible some sort of power thing? i don't know much about that. i've yet to take it completely apart yet. HELP!???

try to run the laptop with the battery taken out. If your lap won't start without the battery, only take it out after the laptop boots. If it runs fine without the battery plugged in, than it is clear you have a battery problem.

so i took the battery out and ran it with just the power cord, the first time it didn't completely load the desktop. there was only one item on the task bar, and though it wasn't frozen, it really would let me do nething. i restarted it and it began to work normal, i ran a game to see if it'd restart. now this is the first error message i've got from the thing. Jump_wmimmc.sys is no good. DRIVER_UNLOADED_WITHOUT_CANCELLING_PENDING_OPERATION.
though it recovered from the system crash, i'm quite worried.

run in safe mode. if it runs without any problems try to fix windows, with the xp cd. put the cd in and boot from it and choose fix option

What kinda temps d'ya get?

Done tha basics? Run a virusscan...spyware/adware? Everything up to date? Cleaned registry and such? I know this is pretty much always my first suggestion, but it seems to fix heaps of these "mysterious problems"

The temps are always around 48c. yeah i've scanned scanned her plenty, this post does say "tried everything". actually havn't taken it apart completely yet.. theres so many hp people who have a similair problem.

i gonna take her into the shop is whats its looking like. quik questions for you guys though. i bought the laptop at a bus stop. I gotta it rather cheap and have never checked out the serial code. is this something to worry about? can i get the serial code checked without the risk of it being taken? if i got it repaired at circut city or something would they even check???

whats your piont. i hate when people just respond to every thread.

Most likely theres a circuit loose in the motherboards. i'll report results..

just got a soldering iron. i shall soon attempt to solder this thing though I've hardly done any soldering before. any tips?

Don't even try solder your motherboard if that is what you are thinking of doing. Take it into a professional to have a look to see what is wrong with it.

Comment:: Laptops are engineered much smaller than desktop PCs. Therefore, you've got your battery, your hard disk drive, your optical (CD/DVD), possibly a floppy, and then the motherboard and the processor. Also, the faster your processor's clock speed is, the more heat it generates.
As a rule, I would completely refuse any notebook not coming with some air vents, and would think twice on a purchase of a book w/o a fan. Does your notebook have a fan?

The startup/shutdown may have nothing to do with heat. Consider viruses,
low batteries and operating system malfunctions.

If it is heat, and you don't want to dump your laptop, consider this: You will be using less heat using AC power rather than battery power whenever possible. Batteries tend to act as a radiator, radiating a lot of the heat you feel throughout the apparatus. Also consider underclocking your CPU a bit if you aren't a speed demon.

Also take into consideration that, if it comes down to motherboard replacement in a laptop, it almost always comes down to whole machine replacement. For these reasons, and because laptops are shorter lived than desktops, I wouldn't trust a laptop as a primary machine.

If you know the serial will show up as stolen do not bring it in!! Most of the time if they work on it they will check the serial. I know it doesnt have to do with computers but my friend bought a brand new cell off of ebay and brought it into nextel b/c it broke and they wouldnt give it back to him b/c the serial number was gone.

i didn't think a virus would cause random restarts. would a virus get worse overtime? i've been scanning it with threat fire, is there something better that might catch a V it missed?

the stolen thing is actually something i had thought about. i bought the lab rather cheap off craigslist. i was thinking about just sending in the mother board. i don't know of a safe way to check the bloody s#!!!!!!!!!!!

i really can't solder it myself!? ggrrrr, that was gonna be fun.
