To be honest when it comes to PC faults it can be down to multiple things, not always just one particular component. I personally would put it down to a faulty motherboard. Although the shop should, if they're any good, change the board for testing purposes.

Rove.

The mouse.sys file and drivers installed for programmable mice are software related. Video drivers have a direct bearing on mouse problems often enough. The hardwares that would most likely see mouse problems like freeze ups would be an overheating cpu, video card, or faulty memory. This one reason why a program like SpeedFan comes in handy for watching temps while Windows is loaded.

Well the fact that in most BIOS' on motherboards having a very large EXIT option on the main menu of it is normally a give away on how to exit a BIOS.

Breaks.

There are a few options there you forget like exit and save changes as well as exit without saving to keep in mind. When advising someone to go into the bios when they lack experience you always refer them to the board's user manual so they don't change the wrong settings. On some boards the hardware monitor is buried within the hardware configuration section.

That is why I advised that they exit without saving :). As for monitoring temperatures, PC Wizard 2007 is a far better application than Speedfan. So I recommend that personally.

Rove (Aka Breaks).

Another one for seeing cpu temps as well as practically everything as far as system hardware and software information is SIW a free system tool found at http://www.gtopala.com/ This one works reliably off of the board's own sensors as well as the Asus temp probe for that make of boards. The main idea despite program however is see what's going on while Windows is loaded. When in the bios you don't have the system idle process to keep the cpu busy while the system sits idle.
