Restore to factory settings

For a while now, I've been working with a computer thats running slower and slower. I've come to the conclusion that there is either some sort of corrupt windows file or i have some sort of virus Norton can't find.
Several people have told me that, in this Hp pavillion, there is a way you can restore your computer to factory settings. (ie. clean the HDD of everything but windows and such). Has anyone heard of anything like this? I was told it is a key combo that can be pressed upon boot up. I've never heard of anything like this, so why not ask the computer people

I've restored my Sony Vaio several times using a recovery disk. You should check out your computer's support page at the HP website for instructions.

Make sure your computer boots from your CD/DVD Drive first. Pop in the O/S disk, boot from it, and follow the directions. 7/8 automatic.

Recovery Parition - Run it, and it's basically the O/S disk saved to a HDD partition. Follow the directions and you're good to go.

REMEMBER - Make only ONE partition, do NOT delete the recovery partition, and BACK UP any important files.
