Restoring Windows

I'm trying to restore my laptop to factory state but I don't have the manufacturers recovery discs. I have a Windows disc which I understand you can run system restore with and return the operating system to factory state. However, when I select C:\Windows drive as the volume I want to restore it asks for an administrators password.......I have never (intentionally anyway) set a password so is there a generic one that works for all Windows systems? For the life of me I wouldn't know what it is.

Please help!

Im not sure if that will work. I would think you would also goto the manufacture and download all drivers for your laptop.

try 'admin' password

What brand?

There's usually a partition on the hard drive that lets you restore it to OEM.

When you start your computer, look for a screen that has the manufacturers
name. There should be prompts to "Press F10 For Recovery" or something such.

It's a Dell laptop.
