retarded psu

i just got my psu in the mail and installed it. it will turn on, but then it turns off after about 5 seconds. i have tried all i can think of....

You're sure its the power supply? Did you try using a different one and see if that made it boot?

Have you got the voltage selector on the back set to the right amount for where you live?

yep.....115 for the us

Do you have the 20 pin and the 4 pin plugged in?

Do you have a family members or a friends PC you can test it in?

Take it to a store maybe and get them to test it...

Maybe, buy a surge protector, you may have a bad line?

EDIT-i have tried 2 surge protectors, but they are both the same kind in the same plug/socket

Sounds like you have a faulty/inadequate PSU. RMA it if possible.

what brand power supply is it? do you have the fan connector for the psu plugged up to the motherboard?

I had an antec psu that wouldn't power on without having the fan sensor attached to the mobo.

if so.......this is the replacement to another faulty PSU. after i plugged in the case connectors, the system powers on for 30 sconds exactly each time.
