Retreiving info from external hd.

I have this Maxtor 120 gig external hd. When I was reformating my internal hd I had this connected, stupid me. To make a long story shot after I was done with the format I went to take the info I stored on the external and put it back onto my pc. Well it wouldn't let me acess any of my info saying that it needs to be formated. I right clicked on properties and checked the space and it said it had nothing on it. The files I had on there were really important to me. Aren't there programs that can retreive them for me? Also what should I do about the need to format hd question.

yeah, theres dozens programs to let you get that stuff back. might not get everything, might get nothing, but give it a shot.. try multiple programs...

Did you reinstall your OS on the internal HD already? If so it should recognise the info on your removeable

I did install the os on the internal. When I go to acess the external it says that it needs to be formated and that nothing is on it.

er..... free and data recovery dont usually come up in the same sentence. TuneUp Utiliities have a free "undelete" feature but thats not exactly data recovery, there are literally thousands of data recovery progams out there, but you ARE going to have to pay at least 20-30USD

some drives needs to have the drivers install like some MAXTOR one touch drive.s
