Retrieving data from a laptop hard drive

To keep the long story short: rain fried my laptop(don't know if it is the cpu or mobo) as I left my laptop in the open. The hard drive is a WD Scorpio Blue 500gb model. So, is there any way to retrieve the data from the hard drive other than paying someone to do it for me?

I am outside right now. Issit possible not to post any photos as I don't know how to do so :p. I am 90% sure that my hard drive is not the thing that is fried

no if you have access to a desktop you dont need any converters, just open the desktop up connect the power conncetion cable from the psu, and connect either ide or sata data cable depending what type of hard drive you have, i would guess its prob sata

I think the Scorpio Blue drive uses standard SATA and SATA power connectors. So you don't need any adapters, just connect the appropriate ports to your computer and you should be able to access the data.

Upon connecting the laptop hard drive to the desktop, you need to assign proper boot order so your desktop's OS will boot. I forgot to do that my first time that I tried this while helping a friend and I ended up having to recover the OS. I was able to boot up Windows from my friend's hard drive after assigning proper boot order but I've never tried running my desktop Windows OS and pull data from a second HD with Windows on it.

idk about this, but what happens to Windows when it detects that second C: drive from the laptop's HD? Is it suppose to treat it as a new hard drive and assign it a different drive letter? I have always used my Ubuntu OS when trying to recover data from a hard drive that has a Windows boot primary partition.
