Reusing Thermal grease on heatsink

I have an old dell, and a socket 478 CPU that I could use as an upgrade, so I was wondering if it would be safe to reuse the thermal grease already on the heatsink and then buy a new cooler later.

Not a good idea. You could go to a small local computer store and get some compound for a little bit of nothing.

It would be better to clean the old material off the HSF and reapply some new paste to the CPU.

Only one problem: no local computer stores, and I have...
$2.
Damn you, Rockstar Energy, for being so delicious.
I'm gonna see if I can buy some thermal grease off newegg next week.

Just show up the Best Buy geek squad, they'd be happy to apply some thermal paste for you.

...after a $59 up front fee and an extra $129.99 for reinstalling your OS which they crashed.

haha. That's awful.

Okay, I'll get that, and then in a few weeks get a new cooler and reapply.
Thanks!

xD that'd be funny if geek squad really charged that much.

"Wait why did you even turn it on, I asked you to apply thermal paste!!"

"We were looking for your porn, but accidentally deleted your registry, lolololol. Don't tell my boss plox.:P:D"

"What the f*ck!?"
