Revamping Computer looking for opinions and suggestions

My current setup is..

Old...
Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
AMD 64 3500
2 Geforce 6800's SLI not working.
2x512 Kingston Memory (which is dieing and keeps crashing computer)
1x80gig HDD use to have raid but my one HDD crashed so now I'm down to one.

So here is what I plan to do so far to save some money and just upgrade slowly.

New...
ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Windsor 2.2GHz
Patriot Extreme Performance 2GB (2 x 1GB)

I'm going to use the same video cards I have now so I don't jacked up to much money at the moment. Also I'm going to hold off on new HDDs until I can buy 2 and RAID them up again.

If this all looks good to you all I may go for it. I think I'll start eliminating my watercooled system as I go right now all that is cooled by water is my CPU and video cards.

I would go with an core 2 duo setup as of now...

How much is your budget?

How will you use the origional video cards if they dont even work?
 
Budget is set pretty low. I'm thinking 500 or less to start my upgrade process.

My two video cards work I think its my mobo that is messing with my SLI cause it use to go into SLI then would stop all the time at random. Which after research was a common problem so I just gave up. I'm hoping a newer mobo will help with that problem.

That amd processor I suggested is a Duo Core processor.
