Ok, rather than change my list yet again on the other thread, here it goes.

I had to do some repairs on my truck that depleted my budget. I have about $400 to work with now, and will be able to upgrade in the next month or so easily. This will support my thesis though with the upgradeability, so chalk that up to. I might be able to pull 600 or 700 (birthday saturday, so lets pray).

Anyway, I have windows. I want a HAF912, and I have a 80 GB SATA 7200 RPM drive I can use.

What can yall throw together with the 400 budget, and then suggested step ups for 600 and 700? I do not mind buying used for the CPU motherboard, and GPU, as they are going to be replaced in the next 3 months anyway.

So you have windows, and a hard drive.

You want a HAF.

Now keep in mind that I will be upgrading soon. I can probably drop the Video card and up the CPU off the bat if that would help. Would probably be able to go to a Pentium G620 and a better board, maybe in the P67 range. But I do not think that will really aid that much here.
 
looks like a good combo, but it will put the starting budget $5 over. Is 4 extra GB really going to make a large enough difference to make it worth it?

Actually nvm on that. The card I choose had 7 shipping, and that combo is free shipping, so I am actually coming out $2 cheaper.

Also, might it be worth it to get a AMD build? I think they may still have some athlons, and they seem to overclock well. Either way I am going to end up on a 580/P67/2500k build, but since I will have to replace the processor and motherboard anyway, AMD may be better right now. I am not sure. Dang all these choices.

I would say drop the GPU and work it torwards a P67/Z68, and a G620 or an i3-2100.

Intel will benefit you highly in the long run, and since you plan on upgrading, might as well go with intel. By the time you want to upgrade, the i3, 5, and 7s probably will have begun to drop in price.

Go intel, you won't regret it. I used to run AMD, but once I got the money I immediately switched to the i3-2100. I'm getting better performance in games then I did with my Phenom II x4 980.

P.S. I'm sorry I didn't make a list for you last night, I fell asleep while on newegg :D.
 
I don't think so. The nearest one is in fairfax va, and that is way too far away to drive to get computer parts. There is a Best Buy, FYE, and maybe some other assorted stores in Winston/Greensboro/High Point, and some in Roanoke/Salem that are not too far away. Christiansburg/Backsburg might have some different ones as that is a college town.

Either way, I do am not going to fairfax county to get computer parts. Thats a 300 mile drive (5+ hours).

It is ok about falling asleep.

As for the upgrade, it will be in April, so prices will be about the same. And If past CPU prices are any indication, then Intel will hold steady, just introducing the newer ones at a lower price to performance ratio.

Either way P67 or Z68 I am going to need a GPU of some kind, as I will OC it on those chipsets. I am not sure though. eh, decisions decisions.
 
Like he was saying, i'd go up on the cpu and mobo, and then you could grab something from the for sale section like that 9800gtx, or i think there's still a gts250 in there somewhere, and those should be able to hold you over.

If is April this year, it is only two months, maybe you should use a credit card just after the statement day and you have 45 days to pay for it. get the right one and done. just a thought

Why is it that everyone just wants it to be done at their leisure, instead of just answering the questions posed.

ok, so what would you do? Just keep in mind 400 budget. Got a HDD and windows. bear in mind that motherboard will be upgraded later on to match the 2500k and a 580, from my original build list.

What would you do with those hardware you get now when you upgrade?
 
toss it in a cheap case and use it to stream video or something. Might use it as a file server when I get a 2 TB drive for it.

If I get a H67 motherboard now, then I can use the IPU when I upgrade. Either way I would like to have a decent dedicated card now, something in the area of a 8800GTX or better to run my video games at a decent setting.
The newest game I have is BFBC2, so medium on it needs a i3-380m and a GT540m, so a GT520 and a pentium would do it to. But again, not really important at this point. I can always sell or reuse the Video card from this start up build later on.

and i was looking at z68 and p67 when i was searching newegg and that one was the cheapest well reviewed one i thought looked good, plus with it you have pci-e 3 and i think usb3? but everything is up to you man, i know as much or less than you really, so your call is as good as mine.

or I was looking at an AMD build to start off too. Might be worth it IDK though. If I can get the GTS250, then it will be fine, and I can just grab a case and upgrade the HDD and be set with a file server then. Maybe another stick of RAM then too.

4x1 RAM is because it is $6 cheaper than 2x2GB and leaves room to move up to 16GB next month. Can grab 12 and run 8 here and 8 in the 2500 and still only be out $60.
